What if we could significantly reduce rush hour congestion by charging people for driving into Auckland’s city centre during peak hours? It’s called Time of Use Charging, and it has worked in cities overseas.
We all know that Auckland has a congestion problem, it’s costing the economy billions each year, a staggering $2.6 billion - and it’s keeping us away from friends, whānau and places we need to be.
Time of Use Charging could make a noticeable difference to traffic across the city. It’s not the silver bullet, but in combination with increased use of public transport and other measures like bus and transit lanes it is a tool to consider to keep our city moving.
